The exterior of this house was designed to mimic a New Zealand woolshed, with corrugate iron and exposed timbers. The plan comprises of a two sides; one of which contains the primary living, dining and kitchen area, as well as the master bedroom located over the garage. The other side contains the remaining bedrooms, as well as a secondary living room with kitchenette. A central bridge connects the two sides and doubles as an entry. The intention of this design is that both sides can operate independently, if needed.
This site was heavily impacted by flooding during Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023, resulting in the house needing to be elevated at least 1.2m above ground level. This presented design challenges regarding access, which was addressed with tiered decking and a half-height level for the master bedroom.
